2013 Update!

New this year: we are seeing a new non-native species of bumblebee in the Northwest for the first time this year. Unlike native bumblees, which are generally docile, the Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum) is extremely aggressive and will attack indiscriminately if the nest senses vibration. Due to the risk to people and pets, and the possible effects on native bumblebee species, we have no choice but to destroy the colonies if they move into your home.

You can spot these bees quite easily, they are plump and hairy, like the native bumblebee, but have a distinctive white flash at their tail end. You will see them milling about the entrance to their nest, which may be a gap in your guttering or roof space or a small hole in a wall or the ground. These bees are difficult to destroy. They require much more pesticide than wasps and are likely to involve more than one visit. We therefore have to charge a little more. Destroying a Tree Bumblebee colony will cost you £45. Wasps’ nests remain at £32.

Many pests are mis-identified by customers, if you have any doubt about the insect you are seeing, take a decent digital photograph of it and email it to us. Wasps

Harrier Pest Control destroy wasps’ nests in the summer months for a fixed fee of just £32.00, we will never ask for more to destroy a wasps’ nest unless specialist access equipment such as a cherry-picker or scaffolding is needed to access the nest.

The only exception is in the case of a late season wasps’ nest, where an additional treatment to your loft may be necessary.

On most occasions we will not even need to use ladders as we use long extension lances which are safer for our operatives, yourself and your property.

Our technician will come along by appointment, inject a small amount of powdered insecticide into the entrance to the wasps’ nest and the returning wasps will carry it into the heart of the nest and within an hour all the wasps will be dead.

Destroying A Wasps Nest

Providing we can access the wasps’ nest from the outside of the house you do not even have to wait in. Our specialist wasp control website offers a PayPal button for you to use. We will then destroy the nest while you are out, but please telephone us to let us know that you have paid and leave open any gates we may need to go through.

If there are any issues which you are aware about which might affect the treatment such as the presence of bats then please make us aware of that over the phone.

Bed bugs

Bed Bugs are rife in the Harrier Pest Control area of operation and many experts believe that the Olympic Games will cause an explosion in these revolting pests over the next few years.

Many people confuse bed bugs with dust mites. Unlike dust mites which are relatively harmless, bed bugs are not found in every bed but only in the beds of those unlucky enough to become infested.

Bed bugs

Bed bugs are about the size and shape of an apple pip and dine exclusively on blood, your blood!

You can transfer bed bugs to your home simply by staying in an infested hotel or even by sitting next to the wrong person on the bus.

Once established in your home they will rapidly spread to any attached properties and in a severe infestation it is possible to sustain upwards of 500 bites per night.

Ants are a major pest of the spring and summer months. Many people will know the horror of flying ants emerging into their houses and dread the summer for this reason.

This may be that populations of cat fleas and dog fleas are becoming resistant to the active ingredients in the flea treatments available to the general public.

It is important to deal with a flea infestation promptly, especially in the presence of toddlers as fleas are intermediate hosts of tapeworm.
